I've done some grading with a box scraper, and now have the areas I'm working on draining nicely. The only problem is, now I've got dirt clods (hundreds of them) scattered across the surface. What's the best way to bust these up so the lawn won't be lumpy?I've got a 33 hp JD1050 with loader. My only inplements are the box blade and a very nice finishing mower. Surfing around the web, it looks like a pulverizer is what I need, but can I improvise? What do you folks use?Brian

Have you looked at a harrow? Looks like a chain link fence with straight teeth sticking down. We drag the arena with one to break up dirt and manure clumps. On some you can face the teeth forward or back to thatch the yard or smooth areas. ....

Yep, that's the tool. A chain link harrow. It is the right tool, except that it does notlift up with a three point. You have to drag it around to turn. They are the hotitem for dragging a horse corral. You might want to do as I did: I have a roll of plain old chain linkwhich is 6' tall and makes a roll about 2 1/2 feet in diameter. Don't know howmany feet are in there but it weighs I'd guess 150 lbs. I believe it used to bethe sides of a dog kennel. Anyway, I wired the roll just in frontof my rear blade, so that instead of the blade touching the ground when I lowerit, the roll of chain link slides over the ground. I use it for taking the rutsout of my dirt driveway...Sort of like a great heavy roll of sandpaper.... Itmight work for your dirt clods. The downside of this homemade clod busteris that sometimes it picks up a lot of trash and clogs up..............Roger L ....

If any of you folks like in farming areas, you can pick up a harrow or drag section for about $5 these days. They are about 4 feet wide, have about 5 bars on them with spikes on them and a lever in back to adjust the angle of the spikes. Put a chain on the front to hook to the tractor. Save a few bucks.Farmers used to use the harrows in gangs of 4 or 6 to level fields, but newer implements have mostly replaced them, so you can pick them up from groves for scrap metal price.--->Paul ....
